Smith & Company Architects served as design architect for the new Leadership Learning Center (LLC). The project is a new four story 17,877-square-foot multipurpose learning center addition which is located on the Quadrangle of Texas A&M University’s main campus that houses Texas A&M University Corps of Cadets members and includes the renovation of an attached 224-bed dormitory (Harrell Hall).
Harrell Hall was the first of the 9 Corps of Cadets dormitories to be renovated and modernized by Texas A&M University and the first of three renovated by Smith & Company. Sitting in the historic quad at the center of the College Station campus these 220 beds 34,700 SQFT dormitories was completed gutted down to the structure and renovated with all new dorm rooms and communal shower & toilet rooms. The new LLC incorporates student lounges, study rooms, and computer labs, as well as offices and cadet training spaces. This building was designed so that cadets can access the LLC directly from their dorm room floor without having to leave their building. The addition of a new electric elevator in the LLC provides the vertical circulation long required for ADA. New stair towers include usable spaces for offices and mechanical uses.
