The University of Houston’s new $120 million football Stadium (TDECU Stadium) serves as the home of the Houston Cougars football team located on Cullen Boulevard in the Stadium District on the university’s campus. Construction began in early February 2013 and was completed in August of 2014 in time to host the first home game. This stadium was designed to have 40,000 seats, which can be expanded to 60,000. Included in the 40,000 seats are; 5,000 premium seats, suites, loge boxes, club seats and additional premium seating. In addition, the stadium offers, 360-degree concourse with uninterrupted views of the field.
Within the project in honor of Bert F. Winston, the Bert F. Winston Band and Performance Center (designed by Smith & Company) was created. The 39,089 SF area is home to the Cougar “Spirit of Houston” marching band located on the east end of the TDECU Stadium the area contains the Spirit of Houston Band recital halls and classroom spaces, a multipurpose gallery and the Houston Athletics office.
