Texas Southern University
* Jesse H. Jones School of Business
Completed: August 1998
Size: 78,000 sq ft
Scope:
The School of Business had over 1,400 students, with projections to exceed 2,000 by the year 2000. As well as being too small, the facility was not projecting the kind of image needed to maintain enrollment and sustain growth, and to reflect current “real world” business environment to the students. Located on the northwest corner of the campus, the new School of Business now serves both as an entry portal for the campus and a terminus for the internal campus pedestrian mall.
The new facility is a three-story, 78,000 square foot classroom and office building. It has 23 classrooms; nine of which are tiered and two are large auditorium-style seating. It also hoses the entire School. including faculty, staff, research, administrative, student services and accounting.
The new classrooms are state-of-the-art-teaching arenas with multi-media capabilities and fully computer networked to allow for links to a vast array of capabilities associated with the Internet. The building design reflects this program in the layering of the building by locating the large tiered classrooms and auditoriums on level one with the remaining classroom functions on level two and administrative functions on level three. The exterior of the building reflects its interior functions and enhances the School’s relationship to both the campus and the business community.
