Scope:

Texas Southern University historically suffers from the lack of an on-campus facility suitable to draw large numbers of students and alumni to witness major outdoor events. In addition, TSU has the only Division I program in the State of Texas lacking its own on-campus or home football facility. The university has experienced an enrollment growth of over 50% over the last 5 years. Considering that 85% of students live off campus, these factors have contributed to an extreme lack of adequate athletic, educational, and tutorial facilities for both athletes and commuter students.

This $42 million facility will be a combined facility for football, track & field, athletic support & educational needs in the Acres Homes area of northwest Houston. This facility will serve as a “satellite” campus, with educational related areas comprising over 30% of the gross support area. Educational spaces will consist of meeting rooms, study carrels, a computer learning center, tutorial spaces, and combination classrooms / team rooms.

The stadium will house over 30,000 spectators for football and track & field and will include athletic support spaces such as home/visitor locker rooms suitable for all sports, changing areas, home/visitor toilet and shower rooms, hydrotherapy, taping, and training rooms, equipment storage, and a medical examination facility

The stadium will also include modern features such as a depressed playing field (7 ft.) for optimum visibility, a combination of individual seating at 50-yard line area and continuous bleacher seating on upper levels, as well as V.I.P. Club seating.

S&C is prime architect for this project and is currently providing programming and conceptual design services.
