Scope:

When Baylor joined the Big 12 Conference, it recognized the need to upgrade several of its sports venues to enable it to host conference tournaments and major national events. These improved facilities will also provide adequate training facilities that are often just as important in the recruiting of student athletes. The Tennis Complex is located along University Park Drive adjacent to the Brazos River and the Waco Creek Marina. Three other competition venues share the riverside site: soccer, baseball, and softball. Parking is provided by the lot serving the basketball arena, and additional intramural and practice courts are across Waco Creek.

This comprehensive tennis complex includes six semi-recessed outdoor courts (with expansion room) and a six-court indoor facility. The $4 million, 13,500 SF air-conditioned building is organized with three courts on each side of a two-story central unit. This central unit houses the lobby, home, and visitor locker rooms, coaches offices, weight rooms, and a small pro shop along with a public locker area and restrooms, plus a small seating area overlooking the courts on the second level. The basic building materials are red brick and limestone or cast stone trim with a green metal roof. The appearance fits into the overall design scheme of the adjacent baseball and softball stadiums and relates to the materials and style of the academic facilities on the nearby main campus. This will be the largest and best equipped tennis facility in Central Texas, designed to attract tournaments of all age groups as well as intercollegiate events.
